Národní park Rocky Mountain měl být zlatým hřebem naší výpravy. Bohužel během nejoblíbenějšího třídenního víkendu byl zjevně zlatým hřebem všech ostatních výprav, takže jsme se museli hodně snažit, abychom se vyhnuli těm největším davům.
Rocky Mountains National Park was supposed to be the highpoint of our expediton. Alas, during the most popular three-day weekend, it became the highpoint of all others' expeditions as well, and we had to work very hard to avoid the densest crowds.
Jako první cíl výletu jsme zvolili Gem Lake. Samotné jezero je už v parku, ale přístup je z neparkového území, tudíž bez pakárny lustrací na vjezdu.
Our first destination was Gem Lake. The lake proper is located inside the park, but the trail head lay outside; thus lacking the hassle of entrance checkpoints.

Na Den Nezávislosti jsme zkusili proniknout do parku postranním vjezdem do Wild Basin. I tady byla fronta aut a museli jsme jít na začátek trasy kus pěšky podél silnice.
On Independence Day we tried to sneak in to the park through a side entrance at Wild Basin. Even here the line of cars stood long, and we had to walk along the road at first.

Museli jsme jít od záchytného parkoviště kus pěšky navíc, ale naštěstí tam kromě silnice vedla pěkná pěšinka.
We have to walk a bit from the winter parking to the trail head. Fortunately the path was pretty nice.

V nesváteční úterý jsme se konečně odvážili do hlubin parku Rocky Mountain. I tak tam byly neuvěřitelné davy, ale pršet začalo poměrně brzy, takže jsme měli dobrý důvod z této zoo vypadnout.
On a non-holiday Tuesday, we finally dared to enter the depths of Rocky Mountains National Park. Crowds were still unbelievable, but it soon began to rain, and we had a good excuse to extricate ourselves out of this zoo.
Bear Lake se dá obejít, ale je tak obsypané turisty, že jsme se o to raději ani nepokoušeli.
Bear Lake has a loop trail, but is was so overcrowded that did not even try.

Ve středu jsme zamířili skrz celý park na západ, domů. Nejkrásnější, nejzajímavější, nejstudenější a největrnější byly nejvyšší části hor - s kvetoucí tundrou.
On Wednesday we drove through the whole park going west, home. The most beautiful, interesting, coldest and windiest part was the top of the mountain - with tundra in bloom.

Odmítla jsem odjet z Rockies bez fotky ovce tlustorohé, tak holt musela zaskočit za své divoké příbuzné Lisina Sierra.
I refused to leave Rockies without a picture of a bighorn sheep, so Lisa's Sierra had to sub for her wild sisters.

Dinosaur National Park měl být jen krátkou zastávkou v dlouhé cestě domů, ale nakonec jsme tam strávili mnohem víc času, než jsme plánovali.
Dinosaur National Park was supposed to be a short stop on our long journey home, but we had eventually spent much more time there.
Fascinující skalní útvary nás vlákali do východní části parku, kam jsme původně vůbec jet nezamýšleli.
